CHRIST-CENTERED SCHOOLS

In partnership with local churches and ministries, working with the Mathare community, eduKenya has established three schools—Mawewa Preprimary School, Mawewa Primary School, and Chelezo High School—each serving a distinct stage of a child’s journey. Together, they share one mission: to provide Christ-centered education that nurtures the whole child and prepares students for lives of purpose, faith, and impact.

Mawewa Preprimary School

Laying the foundation.

Mawewa is a Swahili word meaning “clean water.” It reflects our hope that education—when rooted in Christ—brings life, renewal, and lasting change.

Mawewa Preprimary School welcomes children as young as three years old, offering our youngest learners a safe, joyful, and intentional start to their education. Our staff know the Mathare community deeply and care for each child with patience, consistency, and love. Through play, classroom learning, special activities, and daily rhythms, children begin discovering both the joy of learning and the truth of God’s Word.

From the beginning, we prioritize strong relationships with families. Enrollment begins through an open application shared within the Mathare community, followed by family interviews that allow us to listen, learn, and share our vision together. These early years lay the groundwork for trust, growth, and transformation that can last a lifetime.

Mawewa Primary School

Educating the whole child.

Located in Mathare North, Mawewa Primary School exists so children and families might experience the fullness of life God intends. We provide a high-quality, holistic education that addresses not only academic growth, but also physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development.

While we follow the curriculum set by the Kenyan Ministry of Education, our focus goes beyond test scores. We care deeply about the individual growth of every child—and that commitment consistently leads our students to pursue excellence. Alongside strong academics, students receive nutritious meals, intentional discipleship, and participate in our Rights of Passage Program (ROPES®), field trips, and extracurricular activities such as athletics, music, drama, and scouts.

Students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but they are taught to see one another as fellow image-bearers—created by God and called to something greater than themselves.

Chelezo High School

Preparing students to step forward.

Chelezo High School is a Christ-centered boarding school primarily serving graduates of Mawewa Primary School, along with other students living in extreme poverty. Located in Wote, Makueni County—about three hours from Nairobi—the school provides a safe, quiet environment where students can focus, grow, and thrive.

High school students engage in rigorous academics while gaining practical life experience. They learn additional languages, participate in science labs, visit local businesses and organizations, and serve others through community outreach. Students also take part in debate and math competitions, athletics, and the performing arts.

Faith remains central at Chelezo. Through weekly Bible studies, Sunday services, retreats, and small care groups, students are invited into deeper discipleship. Each lesson is shaped by a Christ-centered worldview that encourages students to think critically, live faithfully, and lead with humility.

Our Approach to Education

Transformation

Our desire is to see lasting growth in every child we serve. At eduKenya, education is not just about information—it’s about formation. We measure student growth through our Seven Transformation Milestones, which focus on character, faith, leadership, and resilience.

Learn more about these milestones here.

Academic Excellence

The pursuit of excellence for each student is at the heart of our educational philosophy. We believe the purpose of education is to form knowledgeable, passionate, creative, responsible, and compassionate adults who positively impact society. This means not only gaining knowledge, but learning how to apply it wisely, discovering God-given gifts, and developing a strong moral compass.

Character Development

True transformation goes beyond grades and exams. For eduKenya, character matters deeply as it informs the use of knowledge and understanding. We seek to cultivate students who work hard, act with integrity, serve others, collaborate well, and use their education to build up—not just themselves, but their communities.
