Mawewa Preschool Relocation
Our Mawewa Preschoolers were making steady progress in their learning journey when an external sewage blockage disrupted normal operations. The blockage rendered the preschool premises temporarily uninhabitable, forcing the suspension of in-person instruction. Despite the circumstances, during the closure period, teachers worked with parents to share learning materials and assignments via WhatsApp, ensuring the continuity of our youngest learners' education. As the sewage issue has not been fully resolved, we moved our preschool learners into a temporary location on the top floor of our Mawewa Primary School and have resumed instruction.
Prayer Request: Pray as we seek a long-term solution to the sewage problem, that the government offices we have engaged and the community at large would work together in a quick and efficient manner to resolve the issue.
Drama Festival Success
During the Sub-County Drama Festivals, our Mawewa Primary School students presented six items and achieved remarkable results. Choral Verse, Cultural and Creative Dance, and Solo Dance each attained the top position, while Narrative placed second and Solo Verse and Modern Dance placed third. Notably, one of our students, Trina, emerged as the best soloist. All six items will proceed to the Sub-Regional level of competition.
Prayer Request: Thank God with us for these good results, and pray for the good health, confidence, and continued safety for our students and teachers as our Drama Festival participants travel for competitions.
Heavy Rains in Kenya
Heavy rains in early March caused severe flooding across Kenya, including in Mathare. This led to significant damage to homes and infrastructure, displacing many residents in the area. The flooding overwhelmed drainage systems, and resulted in contaminated water for some residents, exacerbating the health risks of the community.
Prayer Request: Pray for the safety of our staff and students, especially for those who have had to temporarily or permanently relocate due to the flooding of their homes or neighborhoods.
Debate Competitions
Some of our Mawewa students participated in the Nairobi Metropolitan Debate Competitions hosted at St. Paul's University. They competed in six categories in debate and public speaking. Our students performed well and qualified for the upcoming National Competitions in Category 1 Debate (Grade 9), Category 1 Public Speaking (Grade 8), and Category 4 Public Speaking (Grade 2). One of our students, Goodluck (Grade 2), emerged as the best public speaker in his category. These achievements affirm the school's commitment to nurturing confidence, articulation, and critical thinking skills.
Prayer Request: Pray for confidence and diligence as our Debate teams prepare for the next round of competitions.
Chelezo High School Staff
Five of our teachers attended subject-specific workshops, equipping them with new instructional strategies to improve academic performance. In addition, we hired two new teachers at Chelezo High School in February: Ms. Jacinta Nyamai (Kiswahili/CRE) and Ms. Christine Gai (Biology/Agriculture). The school is now fully staffed, ensuring smooth learning across all subjects.
Prayer Request: Pray that our new teachers would continue to integrate well with the rest of the staff team and quickly adopt the mission and vision of eduKenya, even as they seek to successfully teach their new students.
Student Leadership Training
We recently held student body elections, and ten of our new prefects attended leadership training at Makueni Boys High School, where they learned about becoming servant leaders.
Prayer Request: Pray that our new student leaders, across all our schools, would exercise diligence and wisdom as they carry out their responsibilities.
Health and Wellness
While the month was productive, several students at Chelezo High School required medical attention at Makueni County Referral Hospital for various ailments, with one student, Hope M., continuing to recover at home under close monitoring.
Prayer Request: Pray for continued good health and protection for all our learners. Especially pray for Hope’s full recovery and return to school.

The last month was not without its challenges, but our students, teachers, and staff showed resilience as they met numerous disruptions and setbacks. Despite infrastructural challenges and health concerns, our learners excelled. We are grateful for the support of partners like you, that continue to invest in the lives of the children of Mathare, and we look forward to the month ahead.
