In this edition of the Field Report, I’m sharing a recent UN study. One interviewee from Mathare said something that has stayed with me: “People born into informal settlements feel invisible.” They are often left out of the census and overlooked when decisions are made.
But we know they are not invisible. They are seen, known, and loved by their Creator. They bear His image and have a purpose. That’s why we believe our students are extraordinary—and we’re grateful that you believe in them, too.
Enjoy this month’s Field Report!

Guidance & Protection
As term three unfolds across all three of our schools, our teachers and students are facing both the excitement and challenges of finishing the year well. Staff from different departments are working hard to stay unified and collaborate smoothly so that students receive the best support possible.
Prayer request: Pray for God’s protection over each school and for wisdom and unity among staff as they guide students through this crucial term.
Final Exam Preparations
Students at eduKenya are preparing for their national assessments—KPSEA, KJSEA, and KCSE—which will determine their next steps in education. This is a stressful time, not only for students but also for teachers who are pouring themselves into lesson prep, reviews, and encouragement.
Prayer request: Pray for focus, confidence, and peace for every candidate, and for strength and clarity for teachers as they equip their students to succeed.
Unity in the Family
Many of the families in Mathare and Wote face significant challenges, from poverty to relational struggles. When home life is unstable, it directly impacts our learners’ well-being and academic growth. Our community development team walks closely with these families, encouraging healing and reconciliation.
Prayer request: Pray that God would bring unity and restoration to struggling families, and that children would experience stability and love in their homes.
Spirit-led Excellence
Our various school and program committees play a vital role in making sure eduKenya’s mission moves forward with integrity. Whether the task is urgent or ongoing, our staff wants to serve with excellence and remain sensitive to God’s leading.
Prayer request: Pray that our staff committees would work together with joy and efficiency, always prioritizing what matters most and staying aligned with God’s Spirit.
Provision
In a tough economy, families in our communities are struggling to meet even their most basic needs. For many, paying school fees or buying supplies feels impossible. Through scholarships, feeding programs, and holistic support, eduKenya comes alongside these families—but the need continues to grow.
Prayer request: Pray for God’s financial provision for families, and that resources would be multiplied so every child can stay in school and thrive.
IJM Research on Kenyan Police Harassment
In many developing nations, crime is a persistent challenge. When it is addressed, 1 in 2 of the Kenyans surveyed experienced harassment from Kenyan Police. The International Justice Mission’s report helps explain the lack of trust in the oversight mechanisms in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
UN: Home is where the heart is – and where development begins
The United Nations studied Mathare, and were struck by the sight of optimistic students in school uniforms, even as they were surrounded by waste. Hope stands out in this place, even though “experts often say that the people living in informal settlements and slums are invisible in official data and programmes.”
Three family members killed in Nairobi Mathare fire buried in Kitui
Tragically, a fire spread throughout a village of Mathare called Jangwani, where eduKenya first welcomed students. A Christian senator attended their funeral and courageously shared, “We should take it as such and rest our departed members in peace. As we mourn, we should be hopeful…”
